German Brewhouse - Ramintra

Last Sunday, Nuch asked me to join a party with a group of her high school friends.  They used to get together once every 10 years, but now, with Facebook they seem to find a reason to meet up once a month.

This particular time, they were celebrating Nuch's close friend's return to Thailand after living in Germany for the last 5 years.

She is Chinese-Thai, so we started out at a Chinese restaurant.

Here I am with Tai's husband who is from Germany.

Being that he is German, we took him to the Thai version of a German Beer House.

At one point all the staff, including a bear and a glass of beer all came out and did a dance.

Then, everyone joined in.

And It's Good For The Environment

This past Saturday, I stopped by Carl's house for a quick visit.  When I walked through his door I saw a large message written on the white board near the front entrance.  Apparently, it was a message from his wife.

It reads:

2 Reasons for turning off WiFi

1) Brain Cancer
2) Energy Saving

Wasabi

Trader Vic's at the Marriott Resort and Spa is being renovated, so last weekend Nuch and I tried the JW Marriott's Sunday Brunch.  The food was fine, but the number of options and atmosphere were both lacking.  Still, a bad day at Sunday Brunch is better than a good day at the office.  In addition, there was a moment when I was briefly reminded of Nuch's and my first date.

Almost 6 years ago on the recommendation of a friend, I asked Nuch out for dinner to a Japanese restaurant called Fuji at Central Pingklao.  It was a blind date, so there were the expected pre-date tensions. Then, when we first met, and I saw that she looked pretty damn good, I grew even more tense.  In fact, I think I can finally admit that she may have been a little out of my league.

Anyway, I do my best to hang with this superstar, pulling out every last joke, quip and anecdote from my bag of tricks.  When I start running out of things to say, Nuch begins telling me how much she loves wasabi.  For me, I tell her that I'm okay with spicy food, but I don't touch wasabi.  In fact, a faint whiff of it forces my nostrils to constrict.

Nuch in a friendly effort to demonstrate her superiority and remind me to think twice before I decide to play in the big leagues again, drowns her sushi in a dish of soi sauce thick with wasabi.

Then, it came out her nose.

She was human after all, and the rest is history.

Nuch Catches The Bus

Every month or so, Nuch has a "brush with fame" with a Thai actor, singer, or politician while on a flight.  Each time I'm given a report on their behaviour whether they were friendly, polite, who they were with, and most importantly whether or not they were willing to take photos with the crew and sign autographs.

Here she is with celebrity TV host, Rote-May.  Rote-May is her nickname, which translates roughly as "City Bus".  Don't ask where that came from.

Rote-May is looking a little rough compared to her normal celebrity-self.  That's partly because Nuch's colleague doesn't know how to send pictures via email, so Nuch had to take a picture of this picture displayed on an Iphone screen.

Here's Rote-May with proper lighting.

In fact, I don't think it's really who Nuch says it is.

Dog In A TuTu

I don't know who this lady is, but her dog wears shoes.

Not only do they have matching dresses, but I think they were made from the same curtain.

Not exempt from Thai culture, the dog took his shoes off when he came inside.

Thai Air Wedding

A while back Nuch dragged me along to the wedding ceremony for one of her friends from Thai Air.

Here are the bride and groom just before the water pouring ceremony.

As usual, I'm the only honky.

Before the wedding started, they had a Kan Mak, which is where the groom along with his friends and relatives have a small parade from his home to the brides home.  Fortunately, they live in the same neighborhood.

The parade members each carry a something symbolic of love and commitment.  Here's the dowry.

I'm not sure what chicken is supposed to symbolize - just thought it was funny how I caught this girl in mid-yawn, making it look like she was about to swallow it whole.

Is fish a symbol of fertility?  I just remember the Diff'rent Strokes episode, when Arnold asked Willis where babies come from - avoiding the Birds and Bees talk, Willis told him babies come when women eat fish while wearing a bikini.  Next day, Arnold sees Kimberly eat fish while wearing a bikini....

Bananas and Melons don't leave much to the imagination.

Rama 9 Park Pt. II

It's a slow week, so here are some more pictures from the Rama 9 park near our house.  The first four or five are from this website.  The rest are from my BB.

Enjoy.
