Merry Christmas From Thailand

Like many things in Thailand, your first thought is that this is just a brazen attept at satire.  Unfortunatley...

This was the Christmas Tree at the Ikea store that recently opened in Bangkok

The Deck

Here are some pictures from our dinner last night.

Nuch and I joined a few of her high school friends for dinner and drinks at the deck.  Wat Arun is located just across the river.

The theme of the evening was large prawns.

Picture time.

Let There Be Gaudy

With the King's Birthday on Dec 5th and Christmas just around the corner, it was time for the local government office to bring out all the lights.

This is the, typically, dark and quiet road from the expressway to our house.

Land Of The Golden Palms

On a recent trip to China, I stepped out of my hotel one morning, and all of the palm trees were wrapped in gold.

The Flood Recedes

I think it's safe to say that the threat of our little corner of Bangkok being flooded has passed, and for the most part, the water levels everywhere else are going down.

Here are some final photos from the Bangkok flood.

Towards the end, supplies were running dangerously low.  At a local 7-11 the only alcohol remaining was some homemade moonshine.

Milk was also in short supply.

At the gate to our neighborhood, they dammed the entrance

In case we were somehow trapped in our home, Nuch hoarded buckets of water.

and moved almost everything except the furniture from downstairs to upstairs.

One weekend, we took a walk by the river.

What we saw was nothing near as dramatic as some of the pictures I've posted from areas to the North of Bangkok.

Now, I can say I was a first-hand witness to the 2011 Bangkok flood.

Belated Halloween

Halloween came and went with little fanfare this year.   However, we did spend some time with the Emporium's Halloween display.

Nuch has always said she wants twins.

Thai Air Wedding

Christmas sofa orders have all been sent, so time to catch up on some blog posts.  This is the wedding of one of Nuch's Thai Air colleagues.

A 9 layered cake.  Very auspicious.

Apparently, his family has some connections - here they are with Princess Srindhorn

The wedding lasted about 30 minutes.  Nuch and her friends spent the other 2 hours taking pictures.

Giant-sized portraits - has this caught on in the US, yet?

Signs That Thailand Is Developed

The Southeast Asian blueprint for development is series of 6 simple steps.

1. Democratically elected government
2. Right to free education
3. Protection of human rights for all citizens
4. Burgeoning middle class
5. Modern public transportation system

and the final step towards development....

6. European Strippers

Introducing White Lioness.  Bangkok's first all-honkey strip club.

Pet Butterfly

Actually, these Thai sweets and red Fanta are not for butterflies.  They're for the spirits that occupy the land where our house was built.  I'm told it's always in our best interest to keep them happy.

Happy Birthday Nuch
