Korat Ribs

Korat becomes more livable every day.  Last week, I found an Australian guy that makes baby back ribs - and delivers!!!

The Beautiful Game

There's no question that Football (soccer) is the world's most popular sport - outside of America.

I follow "football" very casually.  When I first arrived in Thailand, I noticed that there were no televised US sports - primarily due to the the time difference, but also do to the dominant popularity of English Premier League Football.   Manchester United were the best at that time, so I adopted them as my "favorite" team.  Over the years, I have continued to follow the weekly scores and may watch the occasional match, but only if it happens to be playing at the pub or restaurant I'm at.

Even though I may be surrounded by a hundred screaming fans, I, like most Americans, can't seem to get into it.  I think the reason is captured by the scores from an early February match day (forgot to post this, but better late than never).  Out of 10 teams playing, only 3 scored, and only 1 scored more than 1 goal.  Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz................

Seafood Under Construction

On our recent trip to Hua Hin, we visited a famous local seafood restaurant.   Everything surrounding the restaurant, which was not much more than a tin shack was under construction - you can see the barbed wire behind Nuch.

Food was great, though, and we'll be back when the work is done.

Bangkok From Above

Draft Day

In Thailand the draft is mandatory, so every year Thai men over the age of 18 pick red or black ping pong balls from a bag.  Black and they can go on with their lives.  Red and they join the army for a 2 year stint.

The kid in the black shirt works at my factory and he's also the nephew of my buddy, Adisak.  A few weeks ago, he was lucky enough to pick a black ball and can continue working at my factory.

I think the odds are like 1 in 5 to get drafted, but to help your odds, some monks provide little voo-doo like ceremonies and prayers to improve your luck.   This one provides a long list of things to do and not do on the draft day.

Here's the party
