Making The World A Better Place

I'm not sure where she found it, but Nuch sent me this picture recently.

12 years and a combined 250lbs ago, here is the Bangkok gang at Bamboo Bar.  Everyone in this picture either worked for the Peace Corps or at Kenan Institute Asia, an international development organization.

Where are they now?

Ron is making the world safer with Airport security systems
Carl is back with the Peace Corps
I'm making sofas for IKEA
Joe is selling off GM Asia's non-Chinese infrastructure
John is still with Kenan
Marc is getting up to make the Dunkin Donuts

Burger & Lobster

Last weekend, Nuch and I had lunch with John and Ja at Burger & Lobster. Apparently, this is a well-known chain from London that had recently opened in Bangkok.  I'm not sure if the price was worth it - burgers were $30 and lobster was almost $100, but it made up for it with popular Facebook fodder for the girls.

The Dunns In Thailand

Nuch and I had some special visitors last weekend.  The Dunns Old family friends spent the afternoon with us during their tour of Thailand and Southeast Asia.  It was great catching up, but ultimately too short and left me with a bout of homesickness.  Hopefully, we can meet again soon.

Selfie time at The Deck with Wat Arun in the background.

After a big lunch, it was time to take in some culture at Wat Po with the #1 tour guide.

Blasphemy

Thursday was Makha Bucha Day, an important Buddhist holiday that celebrates the day when 1,250 monks all coincidentally showed up at the same time to listen to the Buddha give a sermon.

In a sadistic display of  quid pro quo, the Thai government gives everyone a holiday, while banning the sale of alcohol.   As part of my traditional Makha Bucha celebration, I set out to find a vendor that would covertly sell me beer.  It didn't take long.

A Day In Korat

A couple of weekends ago, Nuch came up to Korat for a short visit.  We started our day at a local restaurant that's just a mile or so from downtown, but surrounded by rice fields.

After lunch, we drove out to Teerawong's Farm House.  Teerawong is some guy with some time, money, and land who decided to set up a European-styled garden in the middle of Korat.

Finally, no trip to Korat is complete without paying respect to the matriarch of Korat, Ya Mo.
