Dinner At Chairman Mao's

While on a recent business trip to China, our staff took me out to a Mao-themed restaurant

where waiters and waitresses dressed up like communist revolutionaries

Toasted Pork Ribs

Nuch came home last week with a special dinner that she had bought at the Chiang Rai airport - vacuum packed pork ribs.

I took one look and planned to ignore them for a week or two, then throw them away while Nuch was on a long trip.

I never had the chance.  Two days later they were waiting for me when I got home from work.

They look like crap with my Blackberry camera, but they were surprisingly succulent, and she had found just the right seasoning.  I will never doubt again.  In fact, I've asked her to put out an APB to any of her friends who fly to Chiang Rai to pick up a few more packs.

Even more amazing was that she cooked them in this.

Birthday Merit 2012

As tradition required, Nuch dragged me to the local temple to make merit (donate some food and money) for my birthday.

I'm usually a brat about the whole thing, but it only takes about 15 minutes and unlike going to church, you can wear your flip flops.

I try to look and act so miserable that she'll never take me again (no luck yet), but to be fair - feeding the fish is kinda fun.

A Special Birthday Wish From Emily

Like most people who have ever bought or registered for something online, I receive a dozen or so standardized/ cookie cutter birthday emails from various websites every year on Feb 9th.

I thought this was just another one until I read it more closely.

By the way, I have no idea how I got on Emily's List.  I don't even know who Emily is.
