Our New Neighbors

A small family of huskies has moved in next door. I'm so happy they're not the howling type like our previous neighbor's Thai guard dog.

Sunday Afternoon At Chuwit Park

After a late lunch at Hemingway's, Nuch and I had a foot massage, and then a short walk through Chuwit Park.

Chuwit Park holds some memories for me. 10 years ago it used to be an undeveloped plot of land along sukhumvit riad that was filled with dozens - maybe it was hundreds of makeshift bars, restaurants and various shops. I lived on the next street over and would hang out there at least a few times every week. Then, one day it was gone.

At 4 in the morning a small army had come through with bulldozers and razed everything to the ground. Everything was destroyed. Apparently, the owner of the land wanted the leasers out and didn't want the hassle of contract negotiations. Afterwards, there was the expected backlash against the owner (Chuwit, a well-known politician and supposed man if the people), so instead of a new condo or hotel, Chuwit, in an attempt to make amends, built Chuwit Park atop the rubble of the former bars and restaurants - along with making some small payments to the bar owners. At least, I think that's how the story goes.

His And Hers

I'm going to start documenting the way Thais designate men's and women's bathrooms.

View From The Top

Last night I met up with my old roommate, Harold. We shared a huge apartment that overlooked Sirikit park and what must be the largest body of water in Bangkok.

That was 13 years ago. I'm happy to say that our views of Bangkok are still getting better.

Clean Bill Of Health

With my new job I needed to go through the work permit process. Part of that is getting a blood test and a health check. I'm happy to say I my blood test came out all negative - I don't have syphilis or elephantitus. For the physical check up the doctor asked me if I had 20 fingers. I said I did and I was on my way. In case you're wondering, in Thai toes are called feet fingers - therefore 20 fingers mean you're healthy and normal.

Lost In China

After multiple phone calls to the manager of the factory, failed attempts to use a GPS, and asking several passerbys for directions only to be lost again soon after, my cab driver finally found an old man on an umbrella'd motorcycle to guide us to our destination.

Shanghai Days

I just passed my old apartment.

Not the big fancy one in the foreground. It's the project housing with the trapezoid on the roof.
