Selfie With The Upper Crust

My former company had their 20th anniversary last week and I was invited to the celebration.  The guests of honor were the US Ambassador to Thailand and K. Anand, one of Thailand's most respected former Prime Ministers, who is also on the Board of Directors.

Here I am (behind the sofa with a phone in front of my face) with the Ambassador, his wife, and K. Anand.  Is it possible to photobomb your own selfie?

Another group selfie while we make a toast.

After learning the family recipe, I had to share it with the Bangkok Gang

The Speed Of Sound

I like how the Boeing Dreamliner shows your speed in Mach.  At .86 we almost joined the Chuck Yeager club.

For the record this was the remnants (on my way back) of the snowstorm in Newark that rerouted me to Houston for an overnight stay.

NEC Furniture Show

Part of the reason for my trip home was to stop by the UK for the Birmingham furniture show.

Here's a look at my company's stand.

Edinburgh

I wouldn't normally post about a 2 hour layover, but there was a beautiful sunrise at the Edinburgh airport.

It's also the first time I have used a cashier-less checkout counter - that I couldn't figure out, so the Manager had to do it for me.

Haggis to go.  If I was on the way back to Thailand I would have bought it for my Scottish pals.

and one of the top 5 Eggs Benedict I've ever had.

Little Angels

A recent fad in Thailand has pushed the boundaries of creepiness.  There is a famous Shaman (not sure if that is the correct word), that is possessing life-like dolls with spirits (or angels) to bring good luck to the women that carry them around.  And by "carry around" - I mean take them everywhere and treat them like a living child.

It got out of hand when there was a big fuss on a domestic flight when the flight attendant forced a passenger to put their doll in the overhead bin.  The airline has now made it an official policy that passengers must buy their "Little Angel" a separate seat unless they want it treated like a carry on.

Cold Spell

In Thailand, I don't need to check the weather channel.  When I see dogs wearing monk-like robes, I know the temperature has dropped below 72 degrees.
