One of my pet peeves about travelling and staying in new hotels is always having to figure out how the showers work.
So, I was really impressed when I stayed at new place in Malaysia and they had placed a diagram to clearly show which side was hot and which side was cold.
I was so impressed that, when there was no hot water, I simply assumed that there was a problem with the hot water heater and took a cold shower. I was a bit frustrated when the water was still cold when I got home in the evening.
As they say, fool me once (or twice)... the next day when the water was still cold, I turned the handle to the opposite side and discovered that after all the effort to make useful instructions, they had gotten it backwards.
