48 Hours in München

Last weekend I joined Nuch on her flight to Munich.  Unlike our 24 hour trips to Tokyo, Rome, and Zurich she had an extra night in Munich, so we could take a little extra time to smell the roses (ie drink German beer).

To get our bearings, we started our first day in Munich on a Hop-On Hop-Off city tour.  We never "Hopped Off" until lunch time, but were able to snap a few shots of the Munich architecture.

It was a beautiful day and a beautiful city.  Wish I could tell you what it was that we saw, but I assure you when our tour guide gave his little spiel, it was interesting.  I was just happy to be able to sit out in the sun and not sweat - with a jacket no less.

This was towards the city center.  The theme of the day was beautiful blue skies, a crisp, cool breeze, and important, historical buildings that we passed on the way to the Beer Hall.

This is not necessarily in order - on the outskirts of town is the Olympic Village from the '72 Munich Games

Around every corner there were parks and fountains

Okay, we finally got our bearings and hopped off the bus.  Here I am on the way to Hofbrauhaus for lunch.

Here are some pics of the square next to Hofbrauhaus

Once again, it was a gorgeous day.

The Hofbrauhaus was established in 1644 and may have been a bit touristy.  Then again, we had just finished the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour.  No matter, we didn't come here to impress our neighbors.  We came for the deep-fried pork leg, assorted meats and cheeses, and some of the world's oldest beer.

You can take the girl out of Thailand, but you can't take the Thai out of the girl.  Wherever Nuch goes, she brings her own Nam Prik Narok, which is spicy seasoning.  Narok means hell, so it must be extra hot.

Outside of Hofbrauhaus

This was our lunch the following day.  Thought I'd just throw it in here.

After lunch we decided to burn off some extra calories and walked down to Marien Platz.

I'll try to upload the video of the Cuckoo Clock in the center of the steeple in another blog.

This picture was taken in the inner courtyard of the church (not really sure if it was really a church).

After a little exercise it was time for beer and tiramisu, while we waited for the Cuckoo Clock to chime at 5pm

One of our missions while in Munich was to buy me a proper jacket.  The last time I had bought a jacket was in 1997, when I was at school in Arizona, and as you may imagine, it was a bit thin for the Shanghai and English winters.
Here I am with my new jacket sitting in the cold, feeling warm.

48 hours later and it was time to go home.

Auf Wiedersehen München
